Eros International has boarded Rana, a large-scale spectacular Tamil movie starring mega-star Rajinikanth. The picture is to be directed by KS Ravikumar, who previously directed two other Rajinikanth vehicles Muthu (1995) and Padayappa (1999).
Neither Eros nor producer Soundarya Rajinikanth have elaborated much on the plot, but revealed that Rajinikanth will play three roles. The film's score will be produced by double Oscar-winner A. R. Rahman, with cinematography by Ratnavelu and visual effects supervision by Charles Darby, Emmy-award winner and head of Eros’ Eyeqube Studios.
Production begins next month, with delivery of three language versions – Tamil, Hindi and Telugu – in 2012. Rana will be produced by Eros along with Hara Picture Production (a wholly owned subsidiary of Ocher Studios) through Rana Production UK.
According to some estimates Rajinikanth is Asia’s second highest paid actor, after Jackie Chan. His last movie Enthiran (Robot), which also starred Aishwarya Rai, scored $88m at worldwide theatres.
After Enthiran (Robot), before Rana, Super star Rajinikanth's next release would be a hi-tech 3D film titled Kochadaiyaan. This is the first time that a 3D film with performance capturing technology is being produced in India.
It is worth mentioning that all time box office hit Avatar directed by James Cameron and the latest sensation creating new records The Adventures of Tin Tin Directed by Steven Spielberg have been produced with the same performance capturing technology, in Hollywood.
KS Ravikumar has written the story, screenplay, dialogue and is doing the direction supervision for Kochadaiyaan. The film is directed by Soundarya Ashwin Rajinikanth.
The film is produced by Eros International and Media One Global Entertainment Limited. The work is progressing in a fast pace and is scheduled for release in August 2012. Rajinikanth would act in Rana following Kochadaiyaan in 2012.
